When I Grow Up I Want To Be A Firefighter!

In October, our small town's Fire Department came to talk to the kids. The asked the kids if they wanted to dress up and some did, but Ms. Chrissy and I were all over it! They helped me put on a show for the kids. I dressed up and crawled on the floor to rescue them. Let me tell you, it was HARD to get back up. Seriously, it took two fire fighters to help me stand. The oxygen tank is HEAVY!! They had me run the stairs. When we went outside they allowed me to turn on and spray the hose. They didn't use all the power (only half of the normal) on the hose and I lost my stance. It PULLED me. This firefighting gig is no joke. Literally, THE BEST day of my teaching career!!

Camping!

This week we went camping in the Creative Play Center. The kids loved the tent (I put it up all by myself) and I received tons of compliments on the campfire I made! The cars and trucks don't fit the theme but I put them out because I was getting a lot of requests from the kids. :-)

Elf on the Shelf 2013

Last year, our elf pretty much stuck to the shelf. Skylar did have some adventures though and you can see what mischief she got into here.  This year, our elf only moved a few times but when she moved she was left there for days at a time. Yes, I know, we are bad elf owners. Anyway, below are some photos of Elfie's adventures this year.

Elfie was caught sitting on a candle. Leah was yelling, "The elf is on fire!" I actually believed her but no worries, he's okay! Just warming up his butt. ;-)

Elfie decided to spend the day outside making snow angels.

Elfie was nice and cozy in this doll chair from Pottery Barn Kids.

Elfie is apparently a bookworm like the rest of our family.

Something incredibly exciting happened to me this December, the author of Elf on the Shelf, Carol Aebersold signed my book! She wrote,
"Ms. S's Class, Be sure your elf has only good reports for Santa. Always believe!"

**I know the elf's name is different from last year and I know the elf is technically a boy but dressed as a girl. #technicalities

Poetry Cube

A few weeks ago for class I made a Poetry Cube. I chose mine on Fire Safety. I have a Transportation one that I want to make I just haven't gotten around to it yet. It was very easy and fun to make!
Take a box and wrap it up.

Add 6 cute and catchy poems about the theme you chose.

Here are the poems I chose:

Fire Can Be Helpful
Fire can be helpful
When handled with care.
But fire and children
Do not make a pair!
So don't play with matches
Or anything hot.
Adults may use fire,
But children should not!

Smoke Chant
If you don’t want to choke,
Crawl under the smoke.
Get down on the floor
And head for the door!

Five Little Firefighters
Five little firefighters all in a row,
One, two, three, four, five they go!
Hop on the engine with a shout,
Quicker than a wink, the fire is out!

Firefighter
The firefighter helps us learn our safety rules.
Playing with matches is only for fools.
If you see a fire, "help, you'll scream and shout!"
Dial 911.
The firefighter will put it out.

Five Little Firefighters
Five little firefighters
Sleeping in a row.
RING goes the bell!
Down the pole they go.
They jump on the engine,
And put out the fire.
Now they’re back home-
My, but they are tired!

The Firefighter
This firefighter rings the bell.
This firefighter holds the hose so well.
This firefighter slides down the pole.
This firefighter chops a hole.
This firefighter climbs higher and higher.
And all the firefighters put out the fire!
