Math Treasure Box

Directions: You will create a math or science theme box that may be used with students in the kindergarten classroom. You will share your box with the class. Be creative with this and include math or science related items/tools that might assist children in learning more about a specific topic or concept. Remember all items should be theme related and teach a math/science concept.
Note: Your box must include developmentally appropriate materials and at least two children’s books related to the topic. You will post a list of materials included in your box and a picture if possible.

Here's what I came up with:

It was February so I went with hearts!

Broken hearts- Can you help put them together again?

A few of my favorite counting books.

Memory game.

I chose to do this activity with Lego's but the options are endless!

Valentine's Day!

A little late on the Valentine's Day post, but I wanted to show what I made my Pre- K students.

Crayons:
The picture was taken on my phone so it has an orange tint, but it's really red and pink backing. The writing is in Silver or Gold. I went back and forth between, "You Color my World," and "Have a Colorful Valentine's Day," which was the one I ended up using. The crayons are multicolored and turned out very cute!

I have an overwhelming amount of crayons so I took a new box of 64 that I got for $1 and used almost all of them to make 16 heart crayons. I bought a Silicon Heart pan for $2 at Target. Once I got home, I broke up the crayons and put them in the pan. I put them in the oven at 250 degrees for 15 minutes. Let them cool and Whoa- La!

Happy Valentine's Day!!

My life as a single gal!

It's Single's Day!! My name is Liz. I am 22 (23 in a month) and live in Minneapolis, MN.

I work up at my grade school working with Toddlers and Preschoolers. I had been praying for a job in a school district at a private school so I could share my faith. In November, God answered my prayers. It's going very well and I enjoy it. Once I get my B.A. degree in Early Childhood I hope to teach there.

In July I started going to Eagle Brook Church and it's become a huge part of my life. I volunteer with the 4- year- olds two weekends a month and have met lots of great people with whom I look forward to seeing every Saturday. Some of my other interests: School, driving, volunteering, work, music, scrap booking, swimming, friends, family, children's literature, cooking, baking, reading, arts and crafts.

Music: David Crowder Band, Pitbull, Hot Chelle Rae, Down With Webster, Kristian Stanfill, Aaron Shust, Matt Redman, Chris Tomlin, Hillsong, Tammy Trent, Natalie Grant, Joe Nichols, Mariah Carey, Katy Perry, All Time Low, Johnny Cash

My life revolves around kids. I work with them 30+ hours a week, babysit in my free time and volunteer with them on weekends so it's no surprise that my favorite books are pretty much all kid books! A few of my favorite adult books: When Life's Not Working by my Pastor, Bob Merritt, Heaven is for Real by Todd Burpo, Learning to Breathe Again by Tammy Trent, and The Real Me by Natalie Grant.

Movies: The Ugly Truth, Cars, The Break- Up, Finding Nemo, Mean Girls, P.S. I Love You, 50/50, Titanic, The Proposal, The Stepfather, Life As We Know It, Freedom Writers, The Strangers, The Blind Side, 27 Dresses, Monster- in- Law, Step Up, The Twilight Saga, and Paranormal Activity.

Television: Criminal Minds, How I Met Your Mother, Desperate Housewives, F.R.I.E.N.D.S, Boy Meets World, The Middle, King of Queens, Home Improvement, Grey's Anatomy, E.R., Teen Mom, Everybody Loves Raymond, The Office.

Below are a few pictures of me over the past year.

Poetry Cube

A few weeks ago for class I made a Poetry Cube. I chose mine on Fire Safety. I have a Transportation one that I want to make I just haven't gotten around to it yet. It was very easy and fun to make!
Take a box and wrap it up.

Add 6 cute and catchy poems about the theme you chose.

Here are the poems I chose:

Fire Can Be Helpful
Fire can be helpful
When handled with care.
But fire and children
Do not make a pair!
So don't play with matches
Or anything hot.
Adults may use fire,
But children should not!

Smoke Chant
If you don’t want to choke,
Crawl under the smoke.
Get down on the floor
And head for the door!

Five Little Firefighters
Five little firefighters all in a row,
One, two, three, four, five they go!
Hop on the engine with a shout,
Quicker than a wink, the fire is out!

Firefighter
The firefighter helps us learn our safety rules.
Playing with matches is only for fools.
If you see a fire, "help, you'll scream and shout!"
Dial 911.
The firefighter will put it out.

Five Little Firefighters
Five little firefighters
Sleeping in a row.
RING goes the bell!
Down the pole they go.
They jump on the engine,
And put out the fire.
Now they’re back home-
My, but they are tired!

The Firefighter
This firefighter rings the bell.
This firefighter holds the hose so well.
This firefighter slides down the pole.
This firefighter chops a hole.
This firefighter climbs higher and higher.
And all the firefighters put out the fire!

File Folder Games

This past week for Kindergarten Methods I needed to create a file folder game. I couldn't decide which one I liked better so I made both!

Candy Cane Color Words will be perfect for Christmas!

Vegetable and Fruit sorting game!

So far I've received good feedback from my classmates. I have to turn it in to my teacher tonight.
